«Altai Falcon» – is the first in Russia commercial specialized breeding center for falcons – was set up in Barnaul in 1991. The initial stock for this breeding center were Gyrfalcons, Saker Falcons and Peregrine Falcons, trapped in wild nature according to permissions of Ministry of Ecology of the Russian Federation.

At the present time there are about 100 adult birds specially selected by exterior signs and hunting quality which are the stock core of this center. On an area at 10000 square meters more than 50 cages of different aim  are situated. In 36 cages the parent pairs are contained, which breed by natural way. The part of cages is destined for individual keeping of birds, bred by the way of artificial insemination. Besides that there are cages of great area for youngsters separated aside from parents.

The Saker Falcons in our center breed since 1994, Peregrine Falcons – since 1995, Gyrfalcons – since 2002. Annually we receive more than 100 specimens of young falcons, destined for falconry. Among them there are the most famous nurslings – Altai Gyrfalcons – one-colored dark-brown, almost black, or brown-grey birds. The coloration of the Saker Falcons varies from the light to very dark one. Weight of females is from 1150 to 1500 g, males – from 750 to 1100 g. The Peregrine Falcons, belonging to the two subspecies – Falco peregrinus peregrinus and F.p. calidus, are also different by coloration. Weight is from 550 g (male F.p.p.) to 1400 g (female F.p.c.).

The Gyrfalcons are of white, silver, grey and dark colorations have a weight from 950 g in males to 2100 in females.
Hybrids Gyrfalcon-Saker Falcon are getting by the way of natural breeding of the mixed pairs, while hybrids Peregrine Falcon – Saker Falcon and Gyr - Peregrine – by the way of artificial insemination.

The staff of the breeding center consist of ornithologists, with an experience in falconry, conducting field studies, trapping of wild birds, keeping and reproduction of them in artificial conditions.

The breeding center «Altai Falcon» works in the close contact with All-Russian Scientific-Research Institute on Nature Conservation, Russian Falconry Center, Altai Regional Committee of Natural Resources, State Committee on Nature Conservation of Republic of Altai, and also with a series of Russian and foreign centers on reproduction of birds of prey.

During last five years in nature about two hundred Saker Falcons were released, received and reared in our cages. For contribution in nature conservation the breeding center «Altai Falcon» has awards from Ministry of Nature Conservation of the Russian Federation, Ministry of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation, from local Nature Conservation bodies.

We export  falcons to many countries – from Europe to Japan.
